FAQs

Q. Where is the class held?
- Pte Condominiums : For the residents.
- Clubs : For clubs members.
- SSC Public Swimming Pools : For the members of public.

Q. What is the age group in the big group class?

It varies.  Usually if the class is of the same level, age does not matter.

Q: Can I swim during pregnancy?
Swimming is considered one of the best forms of exercise for pregnant women, no matter if you are a beginner or have been swimming for years. Swimming is a great way to get an all over workout as well as a good cardiovascular workout. The other main advantage of swimming during pregnancy is that it offers a weightless environment in which to exercise, which will also prevent the risk of injury.

Q: Am I too old to learn swimming?
I would say 'Better late then never.' As we mature, swimming is highly recommended as it does not cause a lot of strain on the body and keeps you fit, in shape and healthy. If you have missed the joy of swimming until now, then some swimming classes are highly recommended for you.

Q. How do I arrange for a small group class for my child?
For a small group class, if you have the minimum number of participants for us to start one, we will try to arrange it at a preferred day and time for all your participants.  However this would also depend on our teacher's schedule, so we try to juggle both to find an ideal slot for everyone!
If you are looking at joining an existing big group class that still has vancancies, it can also be arranged.
If you are looking at a private individual class for your child, then simply let us know your preferred time and day.  We will try our best to make the necessary arrangements to accommodate your request.

Q. Where can we buy the swimming caps, goggles and kick-boards?
For students who do not have swimming goggles and kick-boards, you can always buy it from your swimming teacher at a discount price.  All students must buy the same swimming caps from the swimming teacher, to make every students alike, a system of standardize.

Q. Are caps and goggles required?

It is necessary to wear a cap or goggles.   Wearing a cap is to keep hair out of their face and also for the swimming teacher to identify his students. Wearing a goggles is to protect their eyes. But sometimes we do advise that a child does some part of the lesson without goggles. Lots of swimmers become dependent on goggles and will not swim without them.

Q. When can we enrol?
Our Swim21 is an on going program that is year round, so lessons are available for as long as you would like to attend. Our clients can begin lessons at anytime and must let us know when they want to start their first lesson or when they want to stop their last lesson.

Q. School exams coming , can my children stop  for 1 month?
It is not really advisable for beginners to stop swimming lessons when they are actually picking up the skills / strokes.  If you stop them for 1 month then come back again, they might forgot the skills and have to start from scratch again.  So try your best to attend your weekly swimming lessons.

Q. Is there a contract?
The swimmer can start lessons at any time and stop lessons at any time. There is no contract between the client and the Swim21.  We do not issue refunds for lessons that were already paid for.  But please let the swimming teacher know 14 days in advance when you want to terminate your lesson or email : feedback@swim21.com

Q. Should my child wear ear plugs?
1. Plugs are a personal choice. If not molded to the specific ear, they can fall out while swimming. When pushed back into the ear, they will hold the moistness in the ear and can do more harm than good.

2. Water cannot cause a inner-ear infection, the most common types of ear infections. Children who commonly have ear infections get them when they are sick with a cold. Some children never get ear infections. It is based on the individual child and their ear anatomy.

Q. What is the class size for big group class?
For big group class, we usually recommend a group size of not more than 12 per teacher.  However, all our teachers are trained and experienced to teach a group of 12 consisting of different ages, with different abilities in swimming.

Q. Is survival courses included in the course?

Yes, the students will be tested on the Singapore Sports Council Survival Course on the Bronze / Silver / Gold and Gold Star Awards.  Certificates will be issue to students upon passing their Swimming Tests.

Q. How long does it take to complete the entire program?

Generally it will take 2 to 2.5 years to complete the entire program from a fresh beginner to Gold Star Swimmers.  The learning ability will also depend on the child’s learning curve.

Q. What are the qualification of your swimming teachers?
They are qualified teachers from the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) or Singapore Swimming Teachers' Association (SSTA) and Singapore Life Saving Society (SLSS).

Q. Can our relatives' children take lessons in our condo's pool?
This depends on your condo's management regulations.  We will be glad to accommodate your request as long as you are around during the swimming lessons.  We strongly advise you to check with your condo's management on this matter, as Swim21 and our teachers will not be responsible should there be any conflict arising out of this arrangement.

Q. Will you keep changing Swimming Instructor for my lesson?

Swimming Instructor will only be changed when you request, if not the same Instructor will teach the entire program.  But due to circumstances beyond our control, the Swimming Instructor reserves the right to postpone or change to another Swimming Instructor.

Q. What happen if I don't like the Swimming Instructor?
Swim21 is completely dedicated to your total satisfaction and if for any reason you are not satisfied with your Swimming Instructor, we will change another Swimming Instructor for you immediately and the new instructor will provide 1 free lesson.  Example you learn 3 lessons from the 1st instructor and then change to a new instructor, you have to top up the 2 lessons course fee to Swim21 and the 2nd instructor will teach 4 lessons.

Q. How long will it take my child to learn how to swim?
Some parents come to our program with the idea that there is a common time line for how long it takes a child to learn to swim. This is not true. Children will progress at their own rate. A good analogy for this, would be a child learning to walk. All children do not start walking at the same age.. They do it at their own pace. A parent cannot make their child walk, just as they cannot make their child swim. Once a child starts lessons, their parents can get an idea of where the child is and then usually have an idea of their progression rate. Once in lessons, the instructor will communicate with the parent on the individual circumstances of their child. It really does vary from child to child. Some can get out of a beginner group class right away, and others may take 4 months.

Q. When do I need to do registration and payment if I want to start lesson?
Registration should be done and made 1 month advance payment to be paid 7 days before your first lesson. The reason is to allow the swimming teacher to arrange your lesson timing, to make themself free on this specific day and time.  It is also to avoid any last minute cancellation or last minute termination without informing the swimming teacher.

Q. What if my child has a phobia about getting into the pool?
If your child is three or four and is afraid of getting into the pool, there is no reason to rush him/her into swimming lessons. The best thing to do is encourage the child to join you in the shallow end of the pool just to splash and play. Little by little, get the child used to the idea that the pool is a wonderful and fun place. When your child does begin swimming lessons, go with him/her and cheer him/her on. Stay at the side of the pool until your child is ready to go into the pool alone.

Q. Your course fee is much higher than average, how do you justify that?
Our course fee are based on the credibility of our swimming instructors.

Q. Can I speak with the swimming instructor before the booking?
Most of our swimming instructors lead busy, hectic lives so it is not possible to arrange calls prior to booking. But rest assured, we will pass on any special requirements on your behalf.

Q. Are private lessons better than big group lessons?
Depending on the age and goals of the swimmer, private lessons can be recommended or not recommended:

1. For beginner children above the age of 5, privates classes are not recommended. Children learn from one another. They feed off or mimic each other in their regular behaviors and therefore do better in a group setting. A very fearful child below the age of 5 that is not functioning in a group may benefit from private or semi-private classes.  But our instructors recommend children with no basic swimming should take up private classes for 2 months before they join group classes.

2. An adult or teen interested in attaining a specific goal could be recommended for privates classes.

3. If parents or children can’t accommodate the big group lessons timing, then they must do private, semi-private or small group classes which they must form their own team of people.

Q. Can I request for a female or male swimming teacher?
Yes you can, subject to availability and schedules.
